12th Yorkshire Parachute Battalion - some tips on where to start?

  1. Hi
....... really "was no plan" - and him feeling very nervous about this fact.[/QUOTE]

I think they had to put the plan together very quickly and with little resources. It probably didn't help that the command group was hit by artillery

Hi Lawrence, my name is Stephen. My wife’s relative Robert Alexander Gordon (19) was a private in the 12th Yorkshire Parachute Battalion and was killed on 12 June 1944. I had a grid reference from the CWG web site of where he was initially buried, but it wasn’t until I bought a copy of a WW2 map in the Pegasus Museum in Ranville that I discovered he was buried in an orchard in Amfreville before being moved to Ranville cemetery. I’m assuming he was killed in the battle of Breville. I’ve visited the area several times and would be interested to know if there was any other information about him or how he died.

Wow, these records are amazing. Are they available publically? My grandad was wounded in Le Mensil 7/7/44

    Hi Paul
How do you get a hold of a record like this please? I know my grandads date of being wounded and he was sent back to uk.
    Thanks
    Si

    Hi,

Paul hasn’t signed in to the forum since April 2021. You could try and start a conversation with him.

He likely won’t have got the document from UK MOD as they don’t release medical information.

I’ve seen similar Field Medical cards in the odd Scots Guards & Canadian forces service records available online - together with other medical documents that have been attached to the service file following the man’s recovery or death.

They are a 4 sided hand size document on which a man’s initial diagnosis and early medical treatment would be recorded until he reached a hospital facility where AF B179? (Medical Record Sheets?) could be used.
