Trying to find the present day family of 121741 Captain Andrew W. Ewing 2nd Border Regiment.
He was my fathers OC while he was Postings Officer with 20 Reinforcement Camp in India 1944. His wife lived 62 Burns Road, Aberdeen at this time.

I'm afraid that's all the info I have. Most grateful for any help as I'm struggling at the moment and really need to make contact.

TD that's as much as I have I'm afraid. A rough guess of his age I should imagine would be in his later twenties or thirties at the time of 1944. The only other thing I have is his contact address then of c/o Lloyds Bank Ltd, Hornby Road, Bombay. Can we tell anything from his regimental number i.e. Regular soldier, emergency commission etc?

    Hi,

Have you tried the Border Regiment (KORBR) Museum at Carlisle Castle?

    http://www.cumbriasmuseumofmilitarylife.org/

They should at least be able to give you a contact at the Regimental Association.

    Good Luck

Interesting possible connection - in the link below there is a reference to a Revd Robert Ewing, a Junior Chaplain, connected to the Army Dept and in India in fact Bombay

Indian Army List January 1919 - Volume 3

It may be that your man is of Scottish descendants and could have been born possibly either in Scotland or India - both out of Ancestry reach I'm afraid

Thanks TD. The dearth of Scottish records on Ancestry or FMP is really frustrating. Where are their records kept?
The Indian connection is a possibility but it gets us no nearer finding the family. I would have thought he would have joined the Indian Army in that case rather than the British.

I dont know this site [ Search our records ] very well at all, but searching for an Andrew W Ewing born 1905 - 1925 the only record that seems to appear is the '1915 Valuation Rolls'.

Is it right then to assume that he was NOT born in Scotland ??

There are only 4 males married between 1910 and 1950 and again no Andrews and no marriages between 1918 and 1950 (or deaths)

It is a good possibility he was born in India, then 'shipped' back to the UK for his education before moving into the military.

The museum, as mentioned, may provide an opening - fingers crossed

Could really do with some other bits of info to help puts some connections together

Confusing! Maybe an English marriage and his wife lived in Aberdeen while he was away at war or an Indian marriage too before being sent back.
    Thanks jmcq.

TD we need to access Indian records. There is a website that I used years ago but can't remember something like FIBIS, families in British India society I think.

Lets see what the museum throws up first - maybe something maybe nothing - after all we cannot be sure of the India connection.
Another possible line maybe to see if there was a '1939 Register' done in Scotland as well as England & Wales (think FMP have it) and if there was look to see who was living at 62 Burns Road Aberdeen - it might have been his wife to be - if he was in India in 1944 they may well have married and she stayed with her parents during that time - thinking out loud really but it may help

TD the 1939 register wasn't done in Scotland. I tried it yesterday when I thought I had a brainwave! Only other thing to do is put a letter in a local Aberdeen paper asking for help.
Keeping fingers crossed that the museum come up with something to work with. Thanks for your help.
