I am researching for the 11th Hussars (P.A.O) "Roll of Honour" 1939-1947.
    I have two Lads who died during 1940 attached to two Regiments;
Lt, Brian TIGHE (Lothian & Border Horse)
Lt, Albert Peter ARKWRIGHT(12th Royal Lancers)
I would be very grateful for any information on both Officers and the two Regiments Please.

Davis, welcome to the forum. I assume from your post(s) that you have already put the ROH together, and are now looking for info on those on your list?

If you are still pulling the list together, you may want to look at Geoff's fantastic Search Engine.

Interesting to read the 11th Hussars,Prince Alberts Own,War Diaries,

I was looking for information on a certain Lieutenant Colonel Crankshaw who a relative of mine served as Batman/Bodygaurd Postwar.

Reading the War Diaries i found the Lieutenant Colonel starting World War 2 as a 2nd Lieutenant in C Sqn,then progress to Captain, then finish the War in North West Germany as Major commanding D Sqn,and winner of the Military Cross.

Anyone interested, type in .....War Diaries 11th Hussars.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction for information on the 11th Hussars when they were stationed in Berlin after World War 2 had ended?

I'm particalarly interested in the date they entered Berlin.

The information is for a relative of mine who served in the 11th Hussars in his 2nd spell in the Army.He was appointed Batman/Bodygaurd and greeted Officers, dignatries and guests at the door at suit and tie dinners.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Taken from the 12th Lancers War Diary dated 22nd May 1940:

2/Lt. ARKWRIGHT's Troop met some enemy tanks which were in concealment. He himself was most severely wounded in trying to extricate the crew of his leading car which was knocked out and prevent their falling into the hands of the enemy.

L/Cpl. CHORLEY the driver of his car and the only unwounded member of the crew pssed a wireless message to say what had happened and then unaided drove to a CCS at BETHUNE.

Tpr. BISHOP the wireless operator although wounded in the face kept his set in action sufficiently long for L/Cpl. CHORLEY to be able to pass the message.

L/Cpl. CHORLEY on his return picked up a fresh crew and the car was back in action within three hours.

There was (I believe) a Field Hospital at Longuenesse in 1940 so it would be fair to say he was passed along the medical chain from Bethune and died at Longuenesse of his wounds two days later.

My Dad fought in WW2. His rank was Capt at the end of the War, but in all the diaries, he was a Lt. Lt/Capt Peter F Chapman. Anyways, my Dad died October 17th, of this year, in his sleep! He was 90 years old, and a Hero! If anyone is interested in knowing more, or can find something that I dont know about, Im all for it!

Hope to hear back from someone!!!
