Looking for any info on 117 Company RASC,
    "T/14679658 Dar (?) CC Eves
    B Platoon 117 Corp RASC
    Corps Transport B.L.A"

From active service letters, this is for a friend but drawn a blank on 117 Company (I think she wrote '117 Corp' instead of '117 Coy', and am I right in guess

Any other info gents? Much appreciated as always.

Is there any clue as to what B.L.A might be short for?

They were providing transport for them, so knowing who they are might help.

I tried to work out what BLA was but to no avail thus far really. Currently my friends typing up all the letters etc so hopefully more will come out there, I thought each RASC company was individually numbered with no repetition?

Brilliant! Thought it meant that, and there were a few references to him being nervy about possibly getting sent to Burma after NWE.

I cant see anything prior to 1945, when the Coy was posted in Austria - I wonder if this is when your entry dates from? It was an MT Transport outfit at that time.

Regiments had their own MT sections, but RASC companies (or even individuals) would also be used, often they are not part of that Regiments documented history, and if a RASC company was fragmented it often isnt recorded in its own right, so they can be a bit frustrating to research !

Once you have the typed up details let us know what else you have.

Hmm... thanks for that will get all the stuff and go through it.

My friend remembers being told he never drove after the road, after what he saw in Falaise... so will follow this up.

    Letters from this country have:
"No 14679658 Dar (?) CC Eves
    1665 Arty PTN RASC
    c/o GPO Shipley"

Co-incidentally, I suspect both of these units, 117 & 403, may be Petrol Tanker companies.

My source for this, though, isnt one I can verify ( the truxmodels site).

I think the RLC Museum may be a good start.

    Good luck.
