A fascinating story - via BBC (link attached) - concerning a CWGC Cemetery in Venray, Netherlands.
Plea over 11 'forgotten' WWII heroes buried at Dutch cemetery

Campaigners have already found images of many of the soldiers interred at this war cemetery and are now looking for images of the 11 Welsh soldiers interred there. Perhaps some of our WW2Talk members may be able to help with providing such images?

The volunteers are appealing for the images of the following 11 Welsh soldiers:
Edward David Davies, from Carmarthen
Mervyn Hopkin Davies, from Maesteg, Bridgend
Joseph Frederick Davies, from Mountain Ash, Rhondda Cynon Taf
Evan Owen Davies, from Wrexham
Albert Joseph Harries, from Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire

If ever I've seen a clickbait headline in the link...........this was it.

They are hardly 'forgotten' are they? Just because the people who are doing the project don't have photos of the individuals does not warrant them as 'forgotten'. Does that also mean that EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER who doesn't have a portrait of them is also 'forgotten'?

Now if those 11 had been laid in the Cemetery without commemoration, then that's a different matter.

Out of 560 men laid in my local Cemetery, I only have 114 photos. Maybe I should start an appeal about the 446 'forgotten' men lying within, forget the fact that they all have headstones marking their graves.

I'm not having a go at you Tony. No way, Jose. It just really gets my goat when a simple story is twisted in that way.

 

Valid points and as long as we continue to remember them - with or without photos - and the sacrifices they made on our behalf, they will NEVER be forgotten. LEST WE FORGET
