Good evening. I am starting to research my Grandfather’s military service Dennis William Stanley in 10th Hussars. I think he served in the regiment from 1942. He spoke very little about his time with the regiment and thankfully he came home physically unhurt. from this forum and others I am piecing together the regimental’s actions from 1944 in Italy. what I have not been able to find is listing of all the officers and men. I’ve seen a list of the officers. Would one exist? I’m interested in who he served with. Not particularly bothered about the date but if one existed fro VE Day or near to that, that would be brilliant. thank you Andrew
G'day Andrew, Welcome to the Forum. Your first step, apply for your Grandfather's service records. To do that go here: Request records of deceased service personnel - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk), for information and methodology. I have a copy of the Regiment Diaries for 1942 - 44, should you wish to have a copy PM me.
Thank you BFBSM that is very kind of you. If I can have a copy of 1944 and 1945 for 10th Hussars that would be wonderful. being new to forum can’t see how I PM you. I need to do more training!
How to PM? Click on your name (in the author avatar) and click on 'Start a Conversation' and the PM option appears. It is worth searching the website for threads on the 10th Hussars / 10 Hussars. Try Operation 'Buckland' - April 1945. ; I have not read in detail all the thread, just a skimming. See Post 13: 10th Hussars Somewhere a mention: Walter Pritchard 10th Royal Hussars Italy This thread refers to a member having the relevant war diaries: 10 Royal Hussars; April 1945 They get a mention in: The Forgotten Army, Italy 1943-1945 – Italy Star Association 1943-1945 Plus: 5 Corps or 1st Armoured Division WD for Sept 44? their nickname(s): Regimental Nicknames Anyway there are many more mentions! .
