Edwin was captured and murdered by the Germans during Operation Loynton. I found a couple of pictures of him on the net. My thanks to Ron Goldstein for the photo of his grave at Durnbach.

    Keith,

Any image (Jpeg/Jpg) over 2.00 MB has to be resized in order for it to ba accepted by the programme.

I usually have to do it with most of my posts.

There is a memorial in the forest outside Moussey to those SAS murdered by the Germans in the aftermath of Loynton.

If I remember correctly the memorial, erected by the French, reads as if the group fell at the spot. However,it transpired that the group were taken prisoner and transported across the border to Gattenau, Germany where they were executed. The group must have been found buried at Gattenau and later their remains were interred at the Dunbach, concentrated cemetery in Bavaria, many miles from the scene of the foul deed.

There was a war crimes trial of the prepretators involved, postwar.

Operation Loynton has been discussed at length here in the past.
