    Hi all,
I am new here. My great uncle (Francis "Frank" Cedric Green) fought & died in WWII in North Africa. I don't have all the details with me (they are at home :( ) but it says he was bured there so now i am looking to make a trip there to visit him. I do have some photo's i can post later if need be.

Does anyone know any info on this!? Is there still such a site?! Is it practical i go?! I've not been able to find anything on google about it.

Any help or info would be great, feel free to email me: carissaneal at y7mail.com

    Thanks! :)

    Carissa -
Not much more to add to your query as one can fly into Tunis - then rent a car to drive to Medjez el Bab - then find the cemetery - his Battalion of the 1st Dukes was in 3rd Brigade of 1st Infantry Division , and fought well in that campaign.
It can get very hot in summer over there and Mosquitos are a real nuisance so be careful....

    Cheers

Another question..... Would my great uncle have recieved any war metals?! Or his family on his behalf?!

I am so excited to see the web site honouring him. :) I could even print off a map giving his plot location- i cant wait to pass this info onto my Great Aunt which is his younger sister. :)

    Thanks so much!

Carissa, in case you haven't noticed yet, you can also print a certificate for the family.
    CWGC :: Certificate

It might be worthwhile trying to work out in your family tree, who the next of kin might be . If his widow is still alive or if he had children they would be entitled to apply for a copy of his service records.

As he died over 25 yrs ago, it's worth contacting the Ministry of Defence and checking if you can apply for a copy. These records will include information about medal entitlement.

As he was in the 1st Army at the time of his death - he would be entitled to the 1939/45 Star - Africa Star with 1st Army Clasp - defence medal and Victory medal ...

    thanks everyone!! :)

I've just got back from visiting my great aunt who is the youngest sister of Frank C Green. She loved all the info i was able to pass onto her. In return she took me to the WWII memorial stand statue erected by the town of Rushden in England which has his name on it. The church opposite where my grandparents got married (my granddad is the brother of Frank & my great aunt) which also has a wall honoring those lost.

I had a great time & am now looking forward to planing to visit my great uncles final resting place.

Thanks so much for all your help. :)

Carissa - not too clear on what happens to the medals of the deceased - but there are experts on here all about medals - when they wake up in the a.m. - I am sure someone will have an answer - the survivors had theirs sent to them after the war - the family may have had to apply for them....
    Cheers
