I just finished a completely scratch-built Mack wrecker as used by the Canadian RCEME LAD's late in WW2. The wheels are modified Airfix TT large ones but a set is in the post for me courtesy of Richard Allebone. The grill on this was provided by Ilian Filipov and the steering wheel and mirrors are from the Dan Taylor Modelworks range. The rigging is fine copper hook-up wire. I still need to get a bit bigger base for it and sort a couple of figures to compliment it. I just thought you may like to see it before the paint goes on.

    Cheers,

    Neil

Another beauty by you. It looks very close to an NR. Do you know if the LM-SW-57 was a variant of it?

Thanks to you both Dave and Clive. I'm not really a Mack expert Dave but of the NO, NM, NR and LMSW, the NR and LMSW seem to share the same or very similar bonnet, grill and cab dimensionally. The mudguards are definitely different with the LMSW being totally flat across the width while the NR steps down toward the bonnet sides. There were also some differences in the gas tank arrangement and the cab step geometry. The tyres on the LMSW were 14.00-20 all round while only the rears on the earlier NR's with single rear wheels were that size. Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

Lovely. One of my favourites, together with its close relative with British recovery body.

Many thanks to both of you Mike and Ted for the great comments. I have the plan for the British version also Mike so it is a distinct possibility down the road with the hard cab. Meanwhile, I have a CMP 11/12 Cab looking for a suitable body and chassis and the C60S Light Wrecker is tempting me. That for me, would round out most of the wreckers used by Canada during WW2.

    Neil,
Yet another miniature masterpiece from your workshop.
Without doubt it will look great when painted.

Nice work Neil, as we have become accustomed to.

Seems to me that I've seen many of these WW2 era military wreckers in various locations across Ontario. Invariably rusting away behind a barn, near logging roads or old service station. Many logging companies, post war, had entire fleets of CMP's, including wreckers.

Thanks much Tim for the great comment and yes...I have seen a number of them. There was an old wrecker behind a service station on Highway 89 just west of Mount Forest, ON. I used to see it regularly on my way back and forth from Michigan when I lived there for a time. Last time by though, it was gone.....I wonder where it went.....likely the scrapyard.

    Cheers,

    Neil
