It's been 4 months in total since I was inspired by a photo to do this diorama. It is basically a scratch-built 1/76 scale model of a Reo 28XS with Trailmobile 20 Ton Trailer and a D7 Angledozer on board being rafted on a Bailey class 40 raft across a river in Germany. I contacted Library Archives Canada to get information on the photo and all that could be provided was time and location which was Germany in February 1945. Unfortunately, no unit ID was given. My research showed the 1st Mechanical Equipment Park Coy RCE was active in the area at the time with the 1st Canadian Army so used some artistic license to mark the vehicles accordingly.

I have been posting progress photos along the way but as a re-cap, I mastered the raft components which were ably cast by Ian Hanratty in quantity to make the complete raft. I then scratch-built the Reo and trailer and the D7 Angledozer is an great new product from Milicast mastered by their Jim Brown. Some minor mods were made to my copy to replicate the one in the photo. The figures are mostly Milicast as well and were modified here and there to get them as close to the poses in the photo as possible. The two in the landing area are not shown in the photo so are my additions to the scene.

I'd like to thank Dick Harley who provided a plethora of Bailey info and helped with the techical aspects of both the raft and vehicles and also to Steve Guthrie for his kind assistance with information and photos, Ian Hanratty and Friedship Models for his casting of my Bailey components in a very timely fashion as well as providing Bailey info, Pete Marshall for the decals and Stu Harrision for the 3d printed wheels for the Reo and trailer. Inspiration and support along the way from Dave Rhodes and Mike Simpson is also appreciated. Thanks go also to Milicast and Iain Murray for the lovely D7's as I needed two kits with the various attachments to make the version I needed.

If you are still awake, enjoy the photos....I hope you like them.

Your best yet. But then I am a great fan of bridges and rafts.
