    Hi Folks,

I recently completed a little vignette featuring the venerable Airfix K2 Ambulance and a couple of Dan Taylor Modelworks figures from his "Desert Chill" group which I have entitled "Desert Brew-up". The ambulance was significantly upgraded using scratch-built additions and a new wheelset from Wee Friends. All decals were from Mike Starmer's excellent range. The inspiration came from a photo kindly provided by Mike Starmer showing a convoy of K2 ambulances in the Caunter camo scheme.
    Hope you like it.

    Cheers,

    Neil

Neil, I went on ATF this morning and saw this latest piece of work of yours. Over the rest of the day I kept thinking of it, and I have to say this is my favorite of all your previous pieces I have seen. I would go on to say, its one of the best models I have seen in a long time.

Without wanting to sound too arty-farty, you see so many models today using all possible photoetch, resin, etc, and they all look 'perfect', but they just dont seem to have much soul to them. Actually, you go to a show, and you see row upon row of 'perfect' German armour, and its.........boring! I realise im in a minority here, just my opinion.

Anyway, love what you do, keep doing it, and look forward to seeing your next creation (a pontoon carrier I believe?)

Thanks very much Tom, Clive, Dave and Nicks for your great comments on my work. Dave, I am especially pleased with your appreciation of my work. I do try to capture the essence of the scene or vehicle and try my best to make it look believable. Yes, an Albion BY3 Pontoon carrier is up next, already in process and will reflect the build-up in the UK just prior to D-day......stay tuned!!

    Cheers,

    Neil

What you dont see on these photos is the fully detailed interior of the rear, maybe you should post up a shot of that Neil?

The Dan Taylor figures are very nicely done. I think that company is bringing out some nice bits and pieces. I notice you often replace the wheels, or correct them. It certainly makes a difference.
The Airfix K2 is one of their best I think. The Emergency Set (despite the faults) always jumped out at me as a child, and I still find something special about it.

Thanks again Dave. I am attaching a couple of photos of the open rear showing the detailing. In addition and if interested you can view the build process on the Airfix Tribute Forum under Demo Builds. (Unfortunately, current formatting of this site doesn't allow copying and pasting into this posting area). It shows what when into the rear but I did add a couple more blankets.
I do often replace wheels if they are available. Currently, Wee Friends have the K2 replacements as well as K6, Leyland Retriever and AEC Matador. Sometimes I actually retread existing wheels to get a more realistic tread.

    Cheers,

    Neil
