Here is my second shot in the dark for today. Many years back when I took detailed notes from Barclay's regimental history of the 3rd Gurkha Rifles, I ran out of time for the 1/3rd Gurkha Rifles for the period from 3/2/43 to 14/1/45 thinking that I could glean information from the official history. Unfortunately, the periods that the Battalion was not in operations are not very well covered.

If anyone has the regimental history below of the war diaries for this period and is willing to share, it would be greatly appreciated.

    This is the history:

Barclay, Brig. C.N. The Regimental History of the 3rd Queen Alexandra’s Own Gurkha Rifles. Volume 2 - 1927-1947. London: William Clowes and Sons, Ltd.,1953.

In particular, the most important period needed is from September 1944 to January 1945. This was the period that the 17th Indian Division was converted from a Light to an Infantry Division at Imphal and Ranchi. The most particular piece of information I am trying to find is when the Battalion transferred from the 63rd Indian Brigade to the 99th Indian Brigade.

Any help for this period from 3/2/43 to 14/1/45 would be great.

    Hi Dryan67

I have the War Diary for 1944. There is a page for each of the months. Happy to put it on Dropbox or email it to you if you PM an email address. Also have 63 Brigade as well. I have looked through quickly and neither mention it explicitly altho it looks like it was by December 1944 as 1/3 was present when 99 Bde was inspected by a visiting General in December 1944.
