How astonishingly inept. Does the Putin propaganda machine still not realise the power of the internet? Clearly not. Perhaps the Russians have lost the ability to notice these bumbling cock-ups or no longer care.

A part of this is about how anti the Internet a certain mindset is...

    Ukraine War. 2022-

putin doesn't use internet - Google Search

And attempting to assert that what's found on there are "lies", whilst maintaining a "reverse truth".

My thesis is that the 'typical Russian citizen' has spent at least 100 years keeping a low, and therefore relatively 'safe', profile and, quite simply, has consequently lost the ability to 'speak up'. No doubt 'exceptions prove the rule' but they are...well....exceptions.

Two separate articles by ret'd Australian general Mick Ryan. Part Two of his commentary on General Surovikin, the Russian commander; a "taster":
Link (note not via twitter): General Surovikin: A Different Russian Commander?

The second is entitled 'The West needs to boost its industrial capacity fast', a difficult issue for the UK too. A "taster" passage:

A loud video of a Ukrainian recce patrol encountering dug in, unseen Russians - plus a tank:

A commentary on a war in the winter: Winter Soldier, Winter Misery: Will Cold Weather Hand An Advantage To Ukraine Or Russia? With a caveat on the Russians by Professor Lawrence Freedman, which I expect will resonate here with those who have read about the WW2 Eastern Front:

Two British academic commentaries: Ukraine war: why the Kinburn spit is of vital military significance and opens up the recapture of Crimea and Four 'fronts' in the Ukraine-Russia war to look out for as winter bites

If you look at Verdun, for example, from today's perspective, you also come to the conclusion that it was a senseless military sacrifice.
The Prussians thought it was a great idea at the time to bleed the enemy dry in this way.
Well, if you don't put your own skin on the line, even a mindless slaughter seems sensible to achieve your goals.

I'm exceptionally cautious these days when people trot out 'senseless', 'waste', 'needless' etc. re. 'military history'.
A single death can so easily be characterised as such, but lordy isn't context king...

    Complexity heaped on complexity.

The Fifth Floor - Who is Yevgeny Prigozhin? - BBC Sounds

Yevgeny Prigozhin is the head of the Russian mercenary group Wagner, a role that he denied until September. Andrei Zakharov of BBC Russian has been investigating the story of Mr Prigozhin for many years, and he shares his insights.

The Fifth Floor? A news platform with a name quite apt for the current events. I think there's (probably) a phrase in Russia right now, that says something like:

Продолжайте проходить мимо открытых окон (особенно если ФСБ рядом!)

    (ps. folks, try google translate...)
