I have two wooden carved ornaments of stamped Spr Don McIntosh RCE 1st Field Co. I can't find anything on the service no. However I still can't clarify the number. My elderly mother says they were given to her father by a POW. The male figure had Souvenir of Aldershot' on it. Can anyone throw any light or point me in the right direction. Kind regards
The Gazette from Montreal from 21 August 1943 has a note of "McIntosh, Daniel Joseph, Spr F28340 Martin McIntosh (Father), Glace Bay N.S." I think this relates to him being wounded in Sicily Looking at Ancestry family trees there is a Daniel Joseph McIntosh born in Glace Bay 8 October 1904 and died around 1972 with the below photo
F18340, this is MD6, Nova Scotia (where he joined) and the number indicates his FIRST unit was 5th Fort Sigs, RCCS
I agree it says Don, but it could just be a nickname or could be someone had nicked the A from his set of letter stamps (pesky German secret agents up to no good perhaps) - everything else seems to tie in though
