    Hi,

Your best bet would be to start a new topic about your relative - as you can see the last post on this thread didn't elicit any responses which is often the case when a post is tagged onto an existing topic.

    Good Luck

Hello, I’m trying to find details about my Great Grandad. Arthur Henry Cockburn, 249096. I believe he was in camp 54 in Fara Sabina but am unable to find a date he was captured. Any help would be much appreciated

    Hello Luke,

I know a lot about this camp and something about its inmates.

Can you please post what you already know? What was your great grandfather's nationality? I have looked at the British, Australian, South African and New Zealand POW lists for men being held in Italy and can't find him.

If what you know is very little, TOMORROW morning for an hour or so the International Red Cross is open for enquires about prisoners of war. This is a free service and you should contact them. Simply click on the link.
They willl send you a list with dates of the camps in which he was held.

    Regards,

    Vitellino

Vitellino - The number that Luke has quoted is his Grandfather’s POW number. He was In REME and his Service Number was 7382145. The Casualty lists show that he was captured in Cyrenaica on 20th June 1942

Wow I appreciate you finding this information for me. Can I ask where you found this information so I can be assured it’s correct. This will be a tattoo so want to be sure what’s supplied is authentic info. Kind regards

this is amazing to know Thankyou so much. Do you know what camp he was kept at? I believe it was Fara Sabina but I’d like that to be 100% confirmed. Could you also tell me how you found this information?

I did find him - it was the number which threw me!

This snippet is from file WO 392/21 held in the National Archives, London. I have a copy.
It shows that last camp that he was known to have been held in. You'll see it was PG 75, Bari. that doesn't mean he wasn't in PG 54 Fara in Sabina - he was probably sent there afterwards.THAT'S WHY YOU MUST GET HOLD OF HIS POW RECORD FROM THE INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS TOMORROW MORNING, OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT SEVERAL MONTHS

I have also found that after the Armistice of 8 September 1943 he was sent to Germany. Source findmypast.co.uk:

I should add that the Italians did NOT give numbers to their prisoners of war
