    Hi all,
I was wondering if there was a War Establishment table available for a casualty clearing station in North West Europe. I did look on the Trux RAMC page but couldn't seem to find it.

    Thanks.

The CCS WE was issued in July 1942 then reissued in July 1946, with a blizzard of amendments in the meantime. Drop me a PM if you like.

There were several War Establishments over the time and theatres, 9 in all, one of them for neuropathic purposes. As no special War Establishments exist in 21 Army Group"s volume XIV, the standards will apply for North-West Europe:
III/48/3, effective during the wartime, with one minor amendment in October 1939, for Corps, Army and General Headquarters Troops
    III/169/1, a "1942" version, effective from 20.07.1942 until 1946.
Formally, these two seem to have been effective simultaneously.

    III/169/1 - The Casualty Clearing Station (1942):
    A Lieutenant-Colonel's Command
    7 Surgeons/medical officers
    1 non-medical subaltern
    1 Quarter-master
    1 Regimental serjeant-Major
    1 Regimental quarter-master-serjeant
    1 Staff-serjeant wardmaster
    1 Serjeant dispenser
    1 Serjeant hospital cook
    1 Serjeant radiographer
    1 Serjeant Clerk
    3 Serjeants ward duties
    9 Corporals
    64 Privates
    93 all ranks

    No inner structure given.

    Attached 27 all ranks (R.E., R.A.S.C., R.A.O.C., R.A.Ch.D, A.D. Corps, A.C.C.:
    1 Dentist
    3 Chaplains
    23 other ranks.

    Transport
    1 Motor-cycle, solo
    1 Car, 4-seater, 4 x 2
    2 Trucks, 15-cwt., 4 x 2, G.S.
    1 Truck, 15-cwt., 4 x 2, Water
    1 Lorry, 3-ton, 4 x 2, X-ray laboratory
    1 Ambulance, 4-stretcher, 4 x 2, heavy
    1 Trailer, 2-wheeled, 15-cwt., H.P sterilizer

Gary is right with "a blizzard of amendments in the meantime", however, only amendments No. 1 (mentioned above), 5 and 6 are mentioned in A.C.Is. None but No. 1 is existing at TNA.

Edit: This applies to III/48/3. Gary refers to III/169/1, 9 amendments, none survived in TNA.

I managed to get amendments 3 to 9 inclusive, with a total of 10 being incorporated into III/169/2.

No. 10 might be issued in 1946 which is out of my range (ending 31.12.1945).

There are several War Establishment tables missing from the Trux pages. I posted all the Volume XIV tables (specifically 21 Army Group) plus any other relevant tables from 1943. I did not go back to 1942.

Perhaps I will update the Trux section. At one time I had moderator powers for that section only but they disappeared in one of the updates to the forum.

It is now some twenty years since I did the research on 21 Army Group tables. They were available on paper at first but were then moved to the Trux website. When that site was closed this forum kindly offered to host it.

Apologies for all of the questions recently, in the general hospital war establishments, it shows how many medical officers there were for each size of hospital; does anybody know, or know how to find out, what specialists they were?

There are about 70 War Establishments for General Hospitals.
If we still talk about North-West Europe and 21 Army Group (volume XIV), there are only 3 entries until the end of 1945: 1 for Prisoners of War on one each for 600 and 1,200 beds, all effective post VE-day (22.06.1945). If there were no special in that volume for the time before, the basics will apply, in this case volume IV (Line of Communication). Three sizes (1,200, 600 and 200 beds) in two batches, the latter named "1943" and holding a caveat ("Not to be implemented until receipt of instructions from the War Office"). It is not much known about these caveats and their annulment. Theoretically, apart from this caveat, both batches seem to have existed simultaneously (pre- or early war until 01.11.1947 for the first batch and turn of the year 1943/44 until postwar for the second. While the first batch generally reserves 10 % of the bed for officers, the second batch rather follows the general trend of flexibility. Apart from the majority of beds for general medical and surgical beds, the 1,200 bed hospital reserved 2 and the 600 bed hospital 1 section of 100 beds for one of the following purposes:
General medical and surgical; Orthopaedic; Psychiatry; V.D. and any other speciality.

    beds 1st batch 2nd batch "1943" (caveat)
