    Dear all

To assist another restoration project I am looing for Manuals and documentation for the SP 17pdr M10 (Achilles)

I have an RAC publication for the Armament (Vol 3 of unknown) from 1952, so clearly there were 2 other volumes on this vehicle before then.

I am aware of the Armour Photo Gallery 14 book, however prefer to use source material where possible.

Does anyone have any other original RA or RAC (or other nationality) publications they would be happy to scan please - or at least let me know the titles so I have a better chance of finding copies myself.

    Many thanks

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

I wonder if in wartime any of the manuals used were actually the US ones, at least for maintenance of the vehicle. In which case it would be TM 9-752 3-inch Gun Motor Carriage which you can find online with a search.

When I was at Bovington I copied an RAC publication, "Volume III - Armament" for the Archer, also from 1952. Perhaps "Volume III" was the nominal position for the armament in a series, and there may or may not (IMO) have been a Volume I or II.

Bovington may be able to send you a list of the documents they have for the M10 - they did that for me with the Archer. That included two RA manuals.

I realise I have similar for the Comet where the bibliography shows the following for Crew Training.

    Vol 2 - Vehicles
    Vol 3 - Armament

So presumably there is a Vol 1 on another subject, but that is not relevant to Crew Training on the Comet

Theory therefore says there might be a Vol 2 for Vehicle data on the SP 17pdr M10

The Canadian manual you've found sounds interesting - I will see if I can track that down thanks.

Also am interested in any wireless installation documentation for the WS19... I know it was installed on the Sponson next to co driver... but that's about it.

    Cheers

I've seen a couple more titles that might be of interest to you but sadly can't offer any possible locations -

Maintenance manual for the Ordnance QF 17-pr MkI on carriage 17-pr MkI, 1942 - Addendum No.1 relating to ordnance QF 17-pr MkV on 3-inch motor gun carriage M10, 1944 (cancelled 1946 and seemingly replaced by the document detailed above).

Notes on Drill and Equipment for 17-pr MkV gun on on SP mounting (M10), November 1944.

All look ideal titles to obtain... the hunt is still on for those.

    Thanks
