Hi Robert just found this website. Alan Ford was the son of my grandads cousin. I am searching for any of his military information. I have the info from CWGC and a photo of the grave and newspaper articles. I have a photo of him before the war and also a photo of the original cross which marked his grave.

    Hi Pat,
Havent really gone any further with Alan or his family, so many projects ongoing working with my older sister and trying to collate as much as possible for future generations of our family,
my late mum was for many years living with Donald a widower (he had married Alans sister after WW2),
I did not apply for Alans service records yet as so much other work on.

My mum lived half the week with Don and half the week with my sister who moved to the IOM in c1968,
my mum and dad moved to live with my sister in 1989 but dad died after 6 month there.,

Went to Dons funeral a very quiet affair, his ashes were reunited with Maries from what i remember. Marie was I think a senior nurse ? during ww2

He was in the merchant navy in ww2 mainly round the far east, then a Interesting police career Including chasing cold war traitors in Eastern Europe,
think he got the Police QM ? for that. also think he made rank of Chief Superintendant ?
    Keep in touch.please.

Thanks for the info. Yes I knew he was a top policeman, in fact that was how I traced him. Someone I knew was a pc. I think he told me who to contact in the police for his address, it was all very top secret but once they had contacted him and passed a letter on to him he was more than happy to speak to me. I think all his police memoribilia may have gone to a police museum, I was offered it but I was only really interested in Marie's things.
    Yes, please keep in touch.

I have a scrapbook that contains newspaper cuttings from some of his cases - their were about 7 or 8 of these but we only ended up with 1, no idea what happened to his medal from the queen ? certainly did not end up with us, contact me on smokeyjnr@hotmail.co.uk as this post is kind of off topic now for other members Interests. I would like to talk further.
