First of all, apologies if this isn’t the correct thread for this, I know there are specific threads for this battle but most are 10+ years old and I was unsure this would ever get seen at the bottom of those. Please feel free to rename/move this thread as needs be however.

My great grandfather (Sergeant George Harry Pallant) served during the battle of Hondeghem and subsequently Saint Sylvestre-Cappel (where he died and is buried), and I’ve been on a sort of mission to uncover more details about the battle he died in. I’ve been trawling over many posts on here (and other websites) and so far they have been incredibly illuminating and undeniably useful to uncover details about the battle itself, but wherever I go I can’t seem to find any details about my great grandfather specifically.

I know he died on the 27th May but in all of the reports I’ve read hes never mentioned by name, so I don’t know anything specific or even where he was positioned during either of the skirmishes at Hondeghem or Saint Sylvestre-Cappel.

The people on here seem to be a fountain of knowledge about the subject and I was just wondering if anyone had ever come across any scraps of information that they may be able to share with me?

Of course it might just be that he was never mentioned by name in any of the reports or first hand accounts, but I thought I’d be doing a disservice to myself and his memory if I didn’t even ask.

Any response would be truly appreciated,

    Sam
