The month of February was a very light month of clippings saved. It is surprising when you look back and see what was going on at the time. The maps are great and he seems to take a great interest in the "Finns" and their battle against the Russians.
I wonder what the two different symbols mean in the Air Force section. Light colored ones might be building vs completed? Or maybe fighters vs other types?
This will wrap up the month of April 4/15/40,4/17/40,4/18/40,4/20/40,4/21/40 Interesting Balance Sheet of the War at Sea
I apologize for the lack of news being reported. I have been 'kicked' out of my main home as a workmen have taken control of every room and floor working on a renovation. I am living at my beach house which has its perks but unfortunately not my collection. Hopefully the end is almost near and I can finally go home and continue with the reporting of the news from the US.
Well the contractors are almost out and its nice to be home. The news will begin with the defeat of France on 6/30/1940 through 7/6/1940. Hitler and the Nazis seemed to be looked upon as this unstoppable war machine. There is a interesting piece how after drills the Pacific Fleet was back in Hawaii
An interesting map comparing Napoleon Conquest in Europe and Hitler's conquest. 7/12/40,7/13/40,7/14/40,7/15/40,7/18/40,7/19/40&7/20/40
View attachment 302823 View attachment 302821 8-16-1940 & 8-18-1940 Some very interesting Maps. This finished up his "Book #1". The next book begins with September.
View attachment 304867 This seems to be the largest of the scrapbooks in the collection. I know the one image describing the events of the first year of war will be hard to read but thought it was still important to show. I found it interesting that the owner saved the news describing the lending of the 50 destroyers to Britain. Looking forward to see what is in the coming pages. 9/1/40,9/2/40,9/4/40 & 9/5/40 View attachment 304867
I am glad that others are annoying the posts. The person who who did these scrapbooks obviously understood the importance of events outside of the United States before us entering the war.
An interesting piece showing how the British scramble their night fighters against the German Raiders. Another great map explaining how the United States are expanding their defenses. I look and see those little dots that represents Pearl Harbor, Wake, Midway and the Philippines and in the next 15 months we will see how we are woefully not ready. 9/7/1940,9/8/1940 & 9/10/1940
Some poignant photos showing the devastation of the Blitz on the people of Britain. Definitely letting America know that there is a brutal war going on and not just on the soldiers. Interesting little comic showing water being the obstacle of both the Italians and Germany. Some great maps 10/6/40/10/9/40 & 10/13/40
