Morning all. I wondered if anyone would be able to help me find out more about a reference to KR23 paragraph 390 xvii.. Image attached. I am looking for any military history and service record information for a Samuel Walter Bracebridge.. In other records (London gazette transcript re relinquishing commns in1954) his service number is listed as 224245. I also don't really know what that means. Was that the end of his military career?

I can find some reference to Royal artillery 2nd Lt 1942 thru 1945 on Ancestry but I believe he enlisted prior to this and went on to become a tank commander. He was born 03/03/1918. Any advice on gap filling or where to find more information about his service history much appreciated! He died 1981. There is reference in the family to him serving in the desert with Montgomery but no evidence to support this.

    Much appreciated

The best place really only place to start is to obtain his official service records and these are only available from the MOD - forms you need are here - Request records of deceased service personnel

Relinquished means one has served the agreed term, not sought an extension, and left the Corps.
His service records will explain and I assume that he was placed into 'Reserve' after the war meaning he could be called upon to serve again if required, maybe he served in Korea, before finally in 1954 he was fully released from Armed Services duties

When you say "other rank" number - I can see two refereed to 887833 and 224245 - is one more official than the other? Why would there be two different ones?

When he originally joined up he was an Other Rank so basically an ordinary soldier (in the Royal Artillery so a Gunner) and was allocated the Army Number 887833, later on in 1942 when he was Commissioned as an Officer his Army Number would be replaced by a Personal Number (I think thats the correct term) which was 224245 - so both numbers were his but just reflect different periods in his service

Thank- you - really helpful. There is reference to him being a cadet prior to his commission - would this relate to officer training?
