    Hi everyone,

Greetings from the Philippines, I'm interested to learn about what happened to my grandad during WW2. His name is Edmund G Radford, he was in the South Wales Boarders. He was captured in Tobruk and was a POW. I would love to find out where he was kept as a POW if that information is around somewhere. My grandad passed away many years ago and he didn't really talk about the war with our family. So I'm so keen to learn as much as possible so I can tell my uncle and aunties more about his war story.

Thanks for those that might have this information.

    Warm regards
    Kris Mears

I have been unable to locate anything, to date, regarding which camp.

    Hello Kris,

Given your grandfather was in 1st Battalion The South Wales Borderers and captured in the immediate vicinity of Tobruk he would almost certainly have been incarcerated in a POW camp in Italy (prior to being transported to Wolfsberg).

Both of the links below should be helpful regarding capture at Tobruk and then incarceration in Italy.

Also, WW2 Talk member "Vitellino" may be able to help in identifying for certain which camp(s) your grandfather was held in in Italy ("Vitellino" is supremely knowledgable regarding the POW camps in Italy).

    Good luck with your searching.

    Kind regards, always,

    Kris, and all.

    A recounted oral history monologue.

No oscars, but a sincere delivery and recollection of what your grandfather's battalion went through at Tobruk.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

Your best way to discover details of all the POW Camps your relative passed through is to make an online application to the Swiss Red Cross when the enquiry window opens again for one day in May (really 2 to 3 hours maximum). Use this link -

Requests for information about people held during Spanish Civil War or Second World War: Quarterly limit reached

As Manila is 8 hours ahead of GMT check it promptly at 4pm your time and speedily complete the online application form. If the form is t online recheck the site every 15 minutes until it is visible. The various documents attached by members today provide most of the required information.

It is a free service and in pre Covid times you would expect to get a letter through the post with details of all his POW camps - not working camps unfortunately - not less than 4 months after submitting the request.

    Good Luck

    Steve
