Unfortunately not much showing of it but if anyone can 0ffer a suggestion as to which Regiment this soldier served in I would be very gracious. If you could post your suggestion with an example of the cap badge you suggest, I will forward it on to the lady who has taked me with it.
Somehow I dont think its RA see attached four RA NCO's in side caps. Looks like a deer on a scroll. Seen it before somewhere cant think where. Might be on this site. I have a sneaky feeling he is a highland laddy.
A pound to a pinch of poo says it's RA - the rammer/sponge and wheel are there, and the scroll has the same shape.
Royal Artillery without any doubt, I should know my regimental cap badge I wore it for 23 years. The photo was taken between 1939 & 1943, the dates the side cap was in use. Regulations state that the gun badge was changed for the Grenade badge in 1941 but I have seen photos of it being worn after that date. Derek
Correct. All she has on the photo, which she found amongst family photos, is that it was dated December 1939
OK, do I win anything/???......like a NEW CAR.......or a NEW CAR.......just thought I’d ask Do I POST UP here, what kind of NEW CAR I want????
Afraid not as you only thought it looked like - if perhaps you had stated with certainty then maybe you would have won something TD
Sadly you didnt give it as your final answer....................so you win absolutely diddley squat (apart from the thanks from the lady who set me the task who can now start to focus her search on who the man may be). Congratulations.
You could also try the Royal Artillery Tracer cards, although the caveat is that many men's cards are not shown here. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/61820/
If we have a name then we may be able to help further, anyway I am pretty sure he is left handed, so that will narrow it down a little TD
And there lies the problem. She doesnt know who it is. She found the photo amongst a pile of family photos, but all it has on the back is "December 39" She doesnt believe it is a direct relative of hers because as far as she was aware her grandfathers were both at sea. I did suggest that it could be a photo of a sibling of any of her grandparents who maybe died, but until she bucks her ideas up we wont know. I supplied her with a list of 123 local men who died whilst serving in the RA, but then she said that most of her family of that generation were from the Yorkshire area. We may never know!!!
