Hello, I am coming across in squadron ORB's reference such as these when it refers to operational missions in and around the Normandy country side: G.C. 05 / G.C. 21/ G.C. 106 / MOR.1, area 3 / MOR.02, area 1 / MOR.9 What exactly am I looking at and what do they refer to? I would appreciate any advice in cracking this nut of mine. Stephen
Bridges? Complete guess, my mind saw General Classification when looking at GC. Stab in the dark for starters.
Unfortunately not. They are identified. The above is used in reference for armed recces. For example: Twelve a/c took off on armed recce G.C.9 to Lisieux-Bernay-Laigle area.
Any French connection? In French GC is Groupe de Chasse (Fighter Group). There were some Free French units under the control of the RAF. Don't know about MOR.
Might be worth uploading the pages so that they can be read in context - would also then know which squadrons - for example they could from the above post be Free French Squadron or Polish etc who may have certain short cuts or abbreviations only they would use TD
It has to do with the RCAF Squadrons, and I have posted an example above, here is another one: the 541 ORB entry for No.421 Squadron RCAF on 17 June 1944 is this : MOR.2: Sweep of Argentan, Domfront, Vire area. Uneventful. Weather: Hazy to 3000 ft. And this is all that I have to go with. I suspect it relates to an area of the map for the recce, though I am inclined to think it has to do with operational orders as issued by No.83 Group RAF, which I would love to locate; I have been searching for a while now. Stephen
Still suggest you upload an actual copy of the document you are looking at. We have had cases where the original poster gave information from what they interpreted the page to say, only for several members to read and understand what was written differently TD
Thats not the whole page though - I cant see the column headings for example and I also cant zoom in - must get some new specs Have you thought of asking this question on RAF Commands website/forum, as you will see from their name they do probably deal with questions like this more often than we do TD
