    CL1 116th LAA and 92nd (Loyals) LAA,Royal Artillery

You say his son was in dispute with it do you have the reason why

CWGC have him as last seen alive 27/5 then confirmed dead 28/5

War diary would possibly help as you know
But have a feeling it would say X missing 27/5 or along those lines

    John George Moore Doidge

Casualty List No. 869 dated 7 July 1942 reports him missing 5.6.42.
Casualty List No. 913 dated 27 August 1942 corrects this to missing on 27.5.42.
Casualty List No. 952 dated 12 October 1942 reports KIA 27/28.5.42

As he first reported missing perhaps the corrections came about from personal accounts of those serving with him but they could not pin point the actual date.

It is very good that you have done so. His son was born in May 1943. His birth certificate gives John George Moore Doidge as his father. He has never been told otherwise.

Thank you. That provides a bit of extra information. His son was born in May 1943. His birth certificate lists John George Moore Doidge on his birth certificate. He has never been told otherwise. Is there anywhere online I can access these casualty lists. I am aware that my friends father may not be correct on the birth certificate. I thank you imensley for anything else you could provide.. Is there anywhere photos of the regiment and or individual people.

    Thank you!

That could be fun given the number or RA untis at Sinapore. I do not know exactly with whom Dad served!

Ah, now I was thinking of infantry battalions--I don't know how the artillery ones are classified.

Artillery Missing men files are usually bulked in types of regiments like Field Regiments, AT Regiments, Medium Regiments etc. If you don't know exactly what regiment he was with then service records would be the way forward.

    Hi Andy
I'm new to this site but I've already noticed your name cropping up when someone wants a document from Kew. I understand that the offices are closed at the moment because of Covid. I would like a copy of War Diary WO 169/1598 I think. I have no idea how many pages there are in the diary. Do I need to be more specific and ask for certain pages? While I'm waiting for lock down to end I suppose I could search to see if someone else has them.

    Hi Andy
When Kew is open again would you be able to copy this diary for me?

Hi Drew, Now that 2021 is here and lockdown is easing somewhat I'm wondering if you have the war diaries for 33 field regiment royal artillery for October/November 1944. My mother in law's brother, Hubert Raymond Perrins, along with a number of fellow soldiers were killed in action on 28th October. 1944. I'm hoping to find out more details as to how they lost their lives having heard that their gun emplacement had taken a direct hit. Many thanks, Jane Hope
