According to FMP the attestation is 1941, afraid that I am not familiar with numbers/dates, perhaps someone else can comment.

Where were the family in 1939? Is Louisa's dob 12 Apr 1899? Did she marry William Giles in 1939, if so have you the certificate?

 

Louisa is in hospital having her daughter Louise in Oxford, but she has married Giles but George is not brought up by Louise and Giles, possibly Boustead. My feeling is that George William Balmer is doing his regimental training at time of 1939 cencus

 

Really need his service records they should explain what happened chronologically - you might not be able to find him in the 1939 Register as his details could be redacted awaiting confirmation that he has died

Agreed and If it is his military service that you are after then remember that you do not need any military details to get them.

 

No but this all helps and he spent his life in Salisbury, just near where the gunners training ground is in Wiltshire, so it's all pretty encouraging, ty all

 

But not definitive - some of us have helped many people like yourself and part of the problem is that you can find small pieces of info on various sites but really until the service records are received nothing is set except perhaps they are on the CWGC database

We have had quite a few where the family story was 'Dad arrived in France on D Day ...............' but when the service records appear he was found never to have left the UK - this is why they are so important - they will set you off on the correct path and will avoid you going down blind alleys
