At the risk of boring those who have already read my post under Books, Films, TV, Radio, I would like to highlight to those interested in the NW Europe campaign my book Theirs the Strife, which is hot off the press and tells the story of the battles by VIII Corps and XII Corps to defeat 2. Marine-Infanterie-Division and its supporting units on the Weser, Leine and Aller rivers. The book is available through Helion & Co and Amazon. More info is at my post mentioned above.

    Best wishes

Many thanks to you all for your kind words. It has been a bit of a saga but I am delighted it has made it in the 75th anniversary year as this was important to me.

    Mark - I'll send you a PM.

    Best wishes

Got my book yesterday. It is outstanding, especially the detailed story of the F01-Battle at Essel and of course Rethem. And the quality (paper, print and binding) is top! Ordering, payment and delivery without any problems.

    Bye from Verden

I echo Frank's (Hoover) observations entirely John, an epic piece of endeavour on your part.

Arrived this morning, and hence I've been engrossed (and quiet) for the majority of the day (for which my daughter's thank you!)

Again, an epic, and worth every penny to boot, for which I thank you.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

....and you will not be disappointed! John's book is simply a masterpiece of meticulous research, superb photos ,maps, and graphics that put this final phase of the War into context - a phase where everyone 'knew it was all but over' so didn't, understandably, want to take risks but nevertheless had to take those risks.

I received this book today. It looks brilliant. The maps are superb. I was especially pleased to see a reference to my friend's relative in 3 RTR A Sqn. Well done John - looking forward to reading it.

I reflexively delayed on ordering a copy and then this week I remembered "this might be useful for my writing" so I placed an order for the book with Helion right away.

Apologies for the intrusion but can I ask 'who is/was your friends relative'?
Note: my late father was also 3RTR A Squadron, hence the interest.

Sergeant Killen MM see page 316. Any further info on him would be of great interest.

I am guessing this is probably his MM citation report: What happened, exactly 70 years ago?

Chris - yes that's him. Photo of the award from Monty. Was all of 3 RTR A Sqn equipped with Comet tanks in April 45? When did the transition from the Sherman tank take place? My friend has a few bits and pieces from his service. Apparently, although quite clearly he had some incredible stories to tell, he remained silent throughout his life about his experiences of service in the war (as we hear time and time again).

Giberville, maybe you'd like to start a "3 RTR A Squadron" thread? over in the "RAC & RTR" forum section? There is an extremely extensive B Squadron thread here (which may have answers to some of your questions): 3 RTR B Squadron
