Amongst my father's memorabilia is a booklet concerning this unit and wondered if it might be of interest to anyone on this forum? It's 43 pages with many pictures, I'm in the process of scanning it and will probably create a .pdf with the images. I'm quite new to this site, anyone know if/how I can upload a .pdf? the alternative is to create a gallery and upload individual images.
It's already on the internet. Dagger Division - Story of the 19th Indian Division : War Department, Govt of British India : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive Bit hard to read on my phone but lots better on wife's tablet.
They are nice because the design is rather stylish. The booksellers generally have them up for £20 to £30 quid each. Sometimes a shade more. The one we (collectively) cannot find for love nor money is 17th ('Black Cat') Indian Division. I've previously shown off my copy of the Red Eagles with the sharp-edged pull-out. The local printer is a bit of a wizard, so the long-term plan is to have him scan it, remove the fold lines and blow it up as a glossy poster: Family Soldiers: 1/4th Essex (WW2) & 25 Field Regiment R.A.(Post-War)
Well, if someone on the site would like it, it has no particular relevance to me except that it was with my father's stuff.
Our default assumption was that he would have been in the division or associated with them in some way. Don't be too keen to give it away. Who was he with?
Thanks Owen, I've just skimmed the doc. and although the 3rd Carabiniers aren't named I can see that this is an account of many actions in which his squadron was involved from the drive on Schwebo to the capture of Mandalay. Since the day outside is foul with the storm passing through I have nothing better to do than that proposed - I have scanned the pamphlet and created a .pdf which I shall keep. Sadly I represent the last generation in my family with any interest in these matters (as yet no app to load on your phone, see) and I would like the pamphlet to go somewhere it will be appreciated, treasured or suchlike and not to the dump when I die. Now ..... how can I get it onto this site ??? ( had a browse and can't see any others. alt I will load individual pages as images )
By chance one of the better known military booksellers has just released a catalogue featuring a group of these histories: average condition at thirty-five quid each. They do have the Black Cat Division, but it's a bit grubby looking.
As you may all be aware I have posted the images in my gallery under 'DAGGER DIVISION'. I think I shall pass on posting the .pdf you can download the images and create your own. Anyone without the necessary software or experience in it's use message me and I'll arrange to send you a copy of my .pdf
Nice read - my father was in the Welsh Reg. 19th Indian 'Dagger Brigade' I went to Burma in 2017 and visited many places that he had long since trodden.
