Can you photograph your local war memorial? (UK)

    Noticeable on the Memorial are the names of three sons of Captain David Euan Wallace, MC PC, British Conservative politician who briefly served as Minister of Transport during World War II. He died, aged 48, in 1941 and therefore did not witness the loss of his sons.

    Son of Capt. the Rt. Hon. Euan (David) Wallace, M.C., P.C., and of Lady Idina Wallace (nee Sackville), of Petworth, Sussex; husband of Joan Prudence Wallace, of West Kensington, London.

    WING COMMANDER GERALD EVAN WALLACE, Service Number: 33179, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 209 Sqdn.
    Died 20 August 1943

    FLYING OFFICER EDWARD PETER WALLACE DFC, Service Number: 133403, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 128 Sqdn.
    Died 04 November 1944, Age 21 years old
    Buried or commemorated at WOOLLAVINGTON (ST. PETER) CHURCHYARD
    Son of Capt. The Rt. Hon. (David) Euan Wallace, P.C., M.C., and of Barbara Wallace (nee Lutyens), of Petworth. Oppidan Scholar, Eton College. His brother Lieutenant John Wallace also fell.

    He also lost a fourth son after WW2 had ended.

    Died 15 August 1946, Age 24 years old

    Son of Capt. The Rt. Hon. Euan (David) Wallace, P.C., M.C., and of Barbara Wallace (nee Lutyens), of Petworth. His brother Flying Officer Edward Peter Wallace also fell.

    Stumbled upon this during a walk around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve...

    ... it reads:-
    HARRY R HAMILTON
    39316 RAF
    29.08.1940

    so I guess this was a Canadian airman shot down during the Battle of Britain.

    Flight Lieutenant Harry Raymond Hamilton of King’s County, NB was posted to No. 85 Squadron RAF as a flight commander for the Battle of Britain. Flying a Hawker Hurricane, he shot down a Me 110 twin-engine fighter on 18 August 1940. On 29 August he destroyed a Me 109 fighter before being shot down and killed. Harry Hamilton lies interned at Hawkinge Cemetery in Kent, UK. He left behind his mother and father, Nina Pearl and Walter Wesley Hamilton, of Oak Point, NB.
