It was a few years ago now, but the Croydon Air Traffic Control log was displayed at the College of ATC at Bournemouth. I recall entries about aircraft turning right after landing; a heinous crime on a grass airfield.
A relative of mine works at air traffic control and told me that whilst training his tutor got out his lunch box and directed the aeroplanes for London airports around the tin ! There is a very good film about Croydon including how to dismantle and check aircraft engines:
