Any details on the above Polish pilot ex 315 Sqn. Jan Witold Lipiński - Jan Linden Lipinski on the headstone 26/5/58. Buried behind the CWGC , Newark on Trent Cemetery plot next to the same style graves of Jozef Jeka 15/4/1958 and Jan Piotr Izycki 13/4/1958. Both Jeka and Izychi despite what their families were told at the time had been killed 13/4/1958 while engaged in an operation to support Indonesian rebels fighting the regime of President Sukarno , CIA Op Haik . On 13th April 1958 Jeka was piloting a B-26 from the CIA HQ at Mapanget airfield, Manado. One engine failed on takeoff and the aircraft stalled into the ground, killing both men and a Minahasen ( Indonesian ethnic group )radio operator. I'm just wondering if Lipinski was on similar mission as his last Polish unit listed is 315 Sqn which flew P51 Mustangs , another covert aircraft flown by the CIA in Indonesia. He's reported to have died in Germany but then Jeka and Izycki were reported to have died in the US and Denmark.

Re Jan Lipinski - I as yet cannot find anything on him, there are a few close calls but none that match details you have given. Is it possible to obatin a photograph of his headstone, also perhaps as with the other 2, there should somewhere be a record of his burial, maybe a visit there to check and see what their records show or the details they may provide

I've put a request in to the council to get the burial detail. If it's the same as Jeka and Izycki it'll be a family burial at no cost. With the reference to their deaths at the Air Test Area Washington D.C , this is the administration area for CAT Civilian Air Transport , the front company for the CIA to move aircraft into the area later became Air America in Vietnam and Cambodia.

The closest I have been able to get so far is this tree, but he would have been 52 when he died in 1958

    DEATH Unknown

The council have got back to me about the burial and according to their records a Rudolph J Floda is buried there. Ran that name

through the Krystek's list and no hit on that name. So it's starting to look odd.

Me to - very odd - there was a spurious link to a Rudolf Ericsson

Rudolf Ericsson was born on month day 1888, to Carl Erik Eriksson and Albertina Eriksson (born Larsdotter).
Carl was born on December 27 1843, in Nyköping.
Albertina was born on January 1 1853, in Floda.
Rudolf had 2 siblings: Elias Eriksson and one other sibling.
Rudolf married Maria Amalia Ericsson (born Olsson).
Maria was born on August 24 1893, in Kvillinge.
    His occupation was occupation.
Rudolf passed away on month day 1954, at age 66 at death place.
He was buried at burial place.

Maybe a Rudolf Ericsson (Eriksson) from Floda in Sweden who for some reason changed his surname - all a bit odd

I am a new member. I found this thread and was surprised to see Jan Witold Lipinski is in it! He was my mother's 1st cousin. His father and my grandfather are brothers. I have been trying to reseach him for quite a while now. My only information on him is from Krzystek's List. Interested to know if the person who sent a FOIA request to the CIA ever responded?? I had heard along the way that after the war he was flying for the CIA. Another person gave me some information that his name is on Hasinski-Adams book on graduates of the school for underage cadets of the Air Force. He had made copies of the pages and downloaded to a disk, which is now damaged, while writing a book on the Polish pilots. Anyone here know anything regarding that book? I am desperately trying to find any information possible on him. Thanks in advance for any information you have to share! Bronka

Hi Bronka , I did receive a phone call from the CIA Archive , Jan Witold Lipinski was not listed lost on CIA Op Haik. I kept the question fairly specific as it saves search time and costs. If you know he was with the CIA he should have a file that you can ask for under FOIR with them. They are very open now about such things according to the conversation I had with the archivist.

How to File a FOIA Request | CIA FOIA (foia.cia.gov)

I also tried on the 12oclockhigh website

Hi Bronka , I have requested info again from the archives , this research I had put on the back burner while busy with other research. Jeka , Izycki and Lipinski are buried next to each other in the exact style graves. These are just outside the CWGC plot here at Newark. Like the others they have a lantern placed on them at All Souls and a poppy cross on Remembrance day. If you do find anything more out please let me know and I'll add it to the Friends of Newark Cemetery archive.

CIA archives came back blank , but I have found a little more about Lipinski. Polish airmen arrived at the USAF base of Wiesbaden. The CIA flew U2 flights over Eastern Europe from there. Also from what I found out was some Lockheed Neptunes were taken from the US Navy and converted to RB-69A ELINT (Electronic Intelligence) gathering aircraft in USAF markings but crewed by Poles. These crews were later used to recruit members to take part in Operation ' Haik '. I can not find any losses. So may be Lipinski died while there but from accident or illness.
