There is a particular type of document within the WO Series which I am trying to find out about.

It is the files called "Town Major", of which there are loads. For the period 1944 - 46, there are over 600.

    1. Do they relate to the military administration of a town/area after it is liberated?

    2. If the 1st question is correct, is there a list which tells you what town relates to which document?

Basically I'm trying to find one for Breda in the Netherlands.

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

Found this (albeit ww1) relating to duties of Town Major. Might be of interest to you. town_major.jpg

Thanks 51Highland. I know there was a Town Major for Breda, as it's mentioned in the War Diary of 102 LAA Regt, but not where it was located. A civilian was handed over to the Town Major in Breda.
