    Afternoon,
I'm trying my best to find out a little about may grandfather Reginald Water Rogers who was, I believe, injured in 11th July in Arezzo or nearby. He was with the XIII Corps / Royal Ulster Regiment but I'm a little confused as to military matters so am not sure how he fitted in.... is there a detailed diary or solider list anywhere? He stayed in Italy and married a beautiful Italian girl, they had children and one of them produced me!

    Anthony.

He would have served in 2nd Battalion London Irish Rifles (2 LIR) who were sponsored for their Regular Army instructors by the Royal Ulster Rifles. Pre-war, the London Irish Rifles had a number Regular Army instructors to train them and these were provided by the Royal Ulster Rifles. The London Scottish were, for example, provided by Regular Army soldiers from the Gordon Highlanders.

You can get copies of the War Diaries from chaps on this site. Try Gary Tankard for one.

2 LIR were part of 38 Infantry Brigade who were themselves part of 78 Infantry Division.

You can find a lot about 2 LIR on Richard O'Sullivan's website https://www.irishbrigade.co.uk

    Regards

    Frank

If that's the case he was wounded on the Trasimene Line at Sanfatucchio - the big battle was on 21 June.

He would probably have been taken to the field hospital at Moiano or if the wounds were serious he may have been sent down to the hospital in Orvieto.

He might have been tranferred to another field hospital in the Arezzo area after the passage of the front (mid July 1944).

The map is from my book 'The Trasimene Line. June-July 1944'. I have underlined in red the places I have mentioned

    Hello Anthony,

You will need to contact the publisher.www.fondazioneranieri.org
Click on pubblicazioni and then scroll down and you will see 'Texts in English' and there it is.

My real name is Janet Kinrade Dethick. I used to live near Castiglione del Lago, just down the road from Sanfatucchio. The cover photo shows the next village, Pucciarelli.

For your grandfather's service records you need to contact the office in Glasgow - look on the service records thread on this website for the email address.
