It's Johnson's fault. He had the chance of "Norway Plus".

Here's the Norwegian Spruce for the NYC tree being cut down and loaded. About 60 miles north of Manhattan.
A friend of mine went over the day before to tearfully say goodbye to it. I think her fan belt is starting to get a bit loose

I have to wonder who'd seriously criticise it, other than the knob end of Twatter.
It could be a spindly damaged-in-transit stick & it'd still please my eye for representing 72 years of damned civilised 'Nice one' from the Norgies.

"This tree is given by the city of Oslo as a token of Norwegian gratitude to the people of London for their assistance during the years 1940-45."

    Yeah.
    That.

The first Christmas tree from Norway to Britain arrived via the "Shetland Bus Service" whilst Norway was still occupied and appears to have been a thank you for looking after their royal family.

With regards to municipal Xmas trees, here in Boston we get one every year from Halifax, N.S. This is a gift from the people and city of Halifax in gratitude for the outpouring of aid received from Boston when Halifax was devastated by the explosion of an ammunition ship in the harbor during WWI. I should add that a great many people from the Canadian Maritimes have settled in New England or have come here to work, and there are very strong links between the two regions. In a time when idiot nationalism is on the rise, the Boston-Halifax Xmas tree is an especially good symbol of the kind of peace on Earth between men and nations which Xmas is supposed to be about.

I had an artificial tree with lights, which was really nice, protected and bagged up in the loft after last Xmas. To my dismay, I moved home recently and last week discovered I'd left it behind. I then bought a new one and it looked liked the one in Trafalgar Square. I was so annoyed at how awful it was, that I threw in the bin. Maybe I'll buy a large Ficus Denjamina tree instead. Perhaps not !!

Perhaps better by night? Still, continuing grateful thanks to the Norwegian people for their generous gift.

Sadly seems that way, Owen, seen a few stories like that.

I don’t care if they send us a 4 foot tree; as we all here know and appreciate, it’s what it represents that matters. I just don’t understand the stupid and ungracious tw*ts who criticise it and simultaneously insult Norway.

If they decorate it with paper or ribbons, as in 1947, it will look fine. Forget the lights. Thanks for the gift, Norway.
