    Hi Spotter

No actual military sites for you but training in Yorkshire ? ...yes to that.

Have a look at my small piece about Whitby on the BBC WW2 Archives
    BBC - WW2 People's War - Training To Be A Driver/Wireless Operator
and visualise the large number of wireless trucks that seemed to be the only users of the roads in that part of wartime North Yorkshire.

Eskdale, Glaisdale, Westerdale, Loftus and Robin Hood's bay they all got to know us and that's where we learned to drive.

Hope you find your sites !

    Cheers

    Ron

From back in 2007 ;-) so a bit of archaeological posting - re. Wheeldale.... :)

Re. Wheeldale - incidentally I saw this... in the 24th L Wardiary...

"23/11/43 Selected Officers of the Regiment attended a lecture on “Battle Intelligence” given by Lieut.Col.Ewart at HQ, 8 Corps.

2/Lts.F.B.Creamer, A.H.Wade and G.M.Elliott were attached to 165 OCTU, Dunbar.

Selected Officers of the Regiment attended a demonstration of the use of 4.2” mortars at Wheeldale."

At the Roman Camps at Cawthorne North of Pickering, in the historic site there is evidence of a small crater alongside one of the paths.
In the guide book it is stated that there is a crater on the site created by a mortar bomb.

Also slightly further afield near Helmsley, my Uncle used to recall being at a training camp near Helmsley when he was in the Irish Guards.
