Tom and dbf, thanks for reaching out. Sorry to see one is missing the journal or reports for November 1944. (2nd) Would be nice to obtain that somehow, 1 page is all we'd need the commemorate our 2 heroes here in this town. <3 We'd love to make a tiny brochure to hand out at the cemetery on Christmas Eve. I hope someone reads this and is able to help to complete the puzzle. THANKS
fiwi463pfa, Don't worry, if the record still exists, eventually it will come up on this forum or elsewhere Michel
Ask Drew5233 or PsyWar.Org . They may have already copied it for one of their customers & still have it on file.
Thank you very much, Owen, I have started a 'Conversation' with Drew5233 and PsyWar.Org. I hope this will help. Have a fine day.
Good evening, just got back from Armistice Day Commemorations. I got a mail in the mailboc from Lt Gooch's family. In the e-mail I got, there is group picture where one can see Lt Gooch. The family mentions that this was his prior unit : "Armour Core 34P Troop" I can't find anything about a unit with this name. Anyone ?
One of the locals in my town had a letter conversation decades ago, in one of them was a picture of Driver ALLAN. From the family of Lt Gooch I also got his picture. I also got a picture of the funeral.
Filip, Sorry, I've just realised that Lt Gooch is mentioned a couple of times in the war diary of 297 Coy for September 1944: 27 September 1944 WIJCHEN […] 1800 Lt Gooch contacts F.M.C. to get details of work, duration + domestic arrangements required for Appx S. ----------- Date – Time of Origin: 1915189 B. [19 September] From: ?? To: O.C. Coy. M6. Transit area 1835. Satisfactory reports from Lt Broxell [??]. Lt. Gooch cannot find C30. Capt Leach has not reported. Ammo state forwarded to CRASC. -------- I think the latter signal covers a period when Lt. Gooch was commanding a detachment of DUKWs attached to 129 Bde for Op Market Garden. Regards Tom
This could well be the case ! Thanks. They were transferred later on to the Scheldt for operation Vitality. (thus in bivouac in my town). Hope someone can help me with the reports for the first two days of November 1944
Hi Filip, I found a very small snippet in a newspaper mentioning the death of Lt D Gooch. Regards Bruneval
