    Hi Michel,

Is ANSON from 26 Assault Squadron?

    Cheers

    Kevin

  2. Yes, it is! The 'A' of 'ANSON' hints to that, confirmed by the dark triangle on the front plate:

    ANSON - name - Notes.jpg

The dark triangle is also probably present on the front plate of ARGOSY:

Kevin, could you tell something about the pic you posted of SNIPE (on a Rodger trailer), any idea where it was taken ?

    Regards,

    Arjan

  4. Arjan,

This SNIPE is most likely to be a Fantail in Italy and not a Buffalo in the Netherlands or Belgium, in spite of the apparent flatness of the landscape ;).

See British use of the LVT (aka "Buffalo")

    Hi Arjan,

The image came from a post on Maple Leaf Up called Diamond T 980 / 981.
It was posted 30/5/2007. There are no details about the location. There are other images of LVT's on trailers within this post. Non have names and there are very few markings.
Not sure if this link will work but here it is.

Thanks Kevin, the link works fine some interesting pics there. By the way, I take it you noticed that SNIPE is an LVT-2, so a pretty rare bird among all those LVT-4s.

    Regards,

I finally managed to find the footage Michel was looking for, it's BP 2747.32. The stills :

Arjan - do you have the link to this Pathe film? Looks like Rhineland (Feb 45) - might be Donsbruggen near Cleve.

  11. Excellent! Thanks Arjan.

ARGOSY is definitely 26 Aslt Sqn then. The red colour triangle, which shows as a lighter shade than the Olive/Khaki Drab background, is quite apparent on this frame, at the very same location as on the next frame (in post #22):

Not sure about the one crossing the canal that could be SELBY or something like that it is a bit too blurred to confirm.
The LVT with the ramp down is STAFFORD.

    Cheers

    In the discussion
VERITABLE 1945: 3rd Canadian Division in Op Veritable
More LVTs to see during Operation Veritable, as mentioned in the last posts from Arjan.

During the research of Stolpi and Bedee, it was hard to find the locations. Even that we know this area very well. But with the help of War diaries and Google maps, we could find most of the locations. But this one we expected somewhere else.
Because of this post i tried again to find the location. And in this case the rails of the Tram are important. On this picture they are at the left side of the street. This means between Beek (NLD) and Nutterden (DEU).
Some luck with Google images and see....

The location of this picture is the Rijksweg at Beek. The house beside the white house is the only one still intact. All others are renovated or rebuild during the time.

Michel Sabarly , do you know the meaning of the numbers 1A,1B etcetera of the LVT's are these the vehicle numbers or is in this case 2C the same as in Post nr 7 from Arjan ? And how they operated.
We know that there where four entry points in and around Beek Ubbergen. As you can see in our post LVTs starting with the numbers 0,1,2,3 and A,B,C,D,E
Maybe you can explain a bit about the numbers and tactics.

Good find Bedee! The old Café also is still there though now a dwelling.

    Cafe Beek.jpg

The house indicated with the red arrow is the one with the round roof where the Buffalo was filmed (below). The Buffaloos are heading for the Querdamm. I wonder if there is a connection with this film reel: VERITABLE 1945: 3rd Canadian Division in Op Veritable

Really nice work gentlemen ! I wondered about the function of the steel poles and I hadn't thought of overhead lines for a tram. I know locating period pics is an addictive game :).

    Arjan,

These TRAM lines where active during the period August 1912 until 1959. Don't mix these up with the TRAIN rails.

    Arjan,

In this area of Beek and Wyler, Kranenburg people sometimes mix up the old abandoned TRAIN trajectory with the old TRAM network.
These are two different trajectories, but both closed after the war.
On the picture you see the TRAM trajectory Beek, Wyler, Kranenburg, Kleve.

    Here more information

The pics of the LVTs containing a 6 pounder gun made me wonder about the ramps used to get the barrel of the gun free from the cargo bay. Like the Weasels the guns had to be loaded at an angle to fit inside the LVT cargo bay. The ramps look pretty standardized to me so perhaps they were also used for loading Weasels.

I'm not sure though if these ramps would be sturdy enough to take the weight of a Weasel.
