Good genes in that family !

Would there be any chance of getting the finder to post a high-resolution photo of the front of the badge here ? It would be a permanent memorial and also datable evidence of the exact type in use during the 1940 campaign.

I wonder if he threw the badge away prior to capture (being only required to disclose name, rank and number) or if it was lost on his field service cap ?

  4. The finder of the cap badge was reluctant to return it to the family but after he attended a meeting between the family of an RAF Pilot shot down over Belgium in 1942 and a finder of items that belonged to the pilot he came to realize that returning it was the right thing to do.
Pte Carpenter's youngest sister Gladys just turned 93 and was very surprised to get a parcel from Belgium and find inside her brother's cap badge. She recalled the last time she had seen it. Her brother scratched his service number on the back and she cleaned and polished it for him and that was the last time she saw him before he returned home after spending 4 years in a Polish POW camp . Here are some very touching photos of her receiving the cap badge in the mail

    Maureen,
    Wonderful news, well done.
I am very pleased that the cap badge has returned back to the family after 79 years.
Nice to see that Gladys is already busy with the Brasso.
