Just copy this article and hand it in

Why Hitler's grand plan during the second world war collapsed

PS it might be worth mentioning in your myriad of threads on this vast subject what actual research you have done prior to asking exceptionally broad questions, the reason for this is that it stops members providing details you may already have and therefore it doesnt waste their time

By the way that does not mean
"I googled it" or "Wiki says"

It means what books you have read, what contemporary papers have you read, what museums have you visited etc etc

Vast volumes have been written on the subject but to try and put it in a nutshell - Germany was fighting a combination of
    • The largest trading network in the world - British Empire
    • The largest nation in the world - USSR
    • The greatest industrial power in the world - USA
In addition Germany whilst strong in heavy industry was weaker than Britain alone in manufacturing and seriously deficient in agriculture. She could only sustain herself in the war by looting the occupied territories. Throughout the war her armies logistics remained heavily dependant on vast numbers of horse drawn vehicles. The wonder is not that she was defeated but that it took as long as it did. Her only hope had been to 'bounce' her enemies into surrender and when Britain did not surrender in 1940 Germany's fate was probably sealed and it certainly was when she failed to knock out the USSR in 1941

Overall Germany could not compete with the war economy of the US and the manpower of the Red Army...a secondary element was that Germany, in the West, was always behind in the electronic air war...The Red Army strength and development led to the "mincemeat machine" of the Wehrmacht...possibly 450 divisions destroyed on the Eastern Front alone.By 1943 the Third Reich was running out of manpower on the battlefield and in the war economy which depended largely on forced labour.

Another vital factor was that Hitler chose to fight on two fronts and got involved in North Africa in an effort to help out the Italians in an effort to seize the Suez Canal. At the back of his mind there was also the desire to extend his Reich into Persia and India, hence the encouragement of the Rashid Ali uprising in Iraq .Fighting on two fronts with Germany, virtually a geographically landlocked country was an enormous disadvantage which the Allies exploited as they did in the Great War,by mounting a blockade ....the Kreigsmarine had little opportunity to challenge the RN and then the USN on the high seas apart from the U Boat arm, principally from bases on the French Atlantic Coast.By the end of 1943,the U Boat menace in the Atlantic was largely solved, enabling the plan for the invasion of Europe to take shape. As the Great War,the German High Fleet was forcibly confined to their naval bases with few exceptions.

One of the disadvantages that Germany had in going to war.was stocks of oil.Hitler's aggression was based on lightening wars with the defeated paying the occupational costs.Despite extensive synthetic oil plants from large strip mine brown coal deposits, by the autumn of 1944,the war machine was running out of fuel.Luftwaffe flying training was cut back and by the new year of 1945,there was a shortage of fuel for armoured units. The Allied Air Forces mounted a large policy offensive against German oil plants both in Germany and the Sudetenland from the spring of 1944 and this paid soon paid dividends.

Horse drawn transport was a feature of the Wehrmacht operations on all fronts. Published postwar assessment by prominent German generals lay the blame on "lackai" Keitel but he was not available to respond.

You mean the largest country in the world, not the largest nation as USSR was never the one.
