Hello there, I have aquired a mk3 compass case which has a number of service numbers on it. I wondered if there was any way to trace the names of the original owner?
I cannot decipher the number from the photo, can you post the numbers, then people can check on Find my past , Ancestry etc.
My guess would be 4141906 - if it is the service number Cheshire Regiment 4114001 - 4178000 Normally Australian service numbers start with certain letters TD
I think the first is a bad 'B' which has been repeated below it. In which case the number would be B141906, which is likely to be the serial no. of the compass. The second no. I cannot make out. Tim
Ah I hadn't considered that they could be compass serial numbers. The case has 3 numbers on it, one of which has been crossed out. On the lid (as per the photos) is B. 4141906, on the body as per the photo 326192 and on the back (crossed out) is B336799. The compass I have as came in the case is B 19157.
OK try this for size Canadian Kodak Company - CKC = Canadian Kodak Company/Compass C.K.C/C. 1942 Marching compasses 2 TD
