Brought this from a garden centre yesterday £4. I haven't looked at it yet, but I will do, one day.? Graham.
Bit of gap-filling through the letterbox. Read it long ago, thought I had it, apparently not. Actually even better than I remembered. Very sensible book from a very sensible (though sadly no longer with us) chap, pretty uniquely qualified to discuss Tigger. I have too many Tiger books. Now determined to gradually redress the balance with the PM Knight titles.
Charley, is this still your current book-buying problem? Turner Donovan can be a real pain in the backside at times ( trust me) I've had some serious issues with this chap at times. I was once on the phone to Tom Donovan about a book that he sold me that was riddled with water marks & was falling to bits & it (was not cheap!) About 100 sheets. See front dust jacket below. I was spitting feathers has one can imagine. I had to borrow another copy to be able to scan it. After all the shit that i had to put with, I was offered a original copy of the tomb of the book: The Campaign in Italy 43-45 at a cheap price! Getting back to your problem.. I'm thinking this is the book you are talking about? Stu.Edit, I've had some good quality books off him has well & (he can also be quite cheap!)
Yes, that's the one I was hunting. I recall your spitting feathers. I know how you feel--I've had some awfully described books arrive in the post.
Interesting series of books of Japanese-Anglo relations. This one looks at the military aspect and has a series of essays, many by Japanese historians. Bought it for a couple of receommended essays: The Imperial Army turns South: the IJA's preparation for War Against Britains 1940-1941 and Ground of Our Own Choosing; the Anglo-Japanese War in Asia 1941-1945. Another good one is The Japanese Military's Attitude towards International Law and treatment of prisoners of war which discusses some aspects not often touched on in Western writings Bit off the beaten track for me but saw a good documentary that mentioned it. Based around the following case: Villisca axe murders - Wikipedia
Designing The T-34 2019: Genesis of the Revolutionary Soviet Tank: Amazon.co.uk: Peter Samsonov: 9781911658306: Books Pre-ordered as the author is usually very interesting, either as @Tank_Archives on Twatter, or on his blog: Tank Archives Was showing at £16-19 over recent weeks, so £13 tripped the idiot brain. Smells good.
Wandered into the D-Day Story (a museum to the rest of us) and saw this on display, which was new to me: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vanguard-Stories-Reconnaissance-Intelligence-Missions/dp/1912690632/ Seems a fairly serious book... Not sure where their Grizzly and Croc have gone. Hopefully for refurbishment after being stuck outside in a salty atmosphere.
Well I just spent some time at the Canadian archives so I decided to reward myself by walking over to the War Museum and its used book room. (Museum admission not required!) I picked up Delaforce's books on 3rd Division and 49th Division as research material. I checked one of them to see if they refer to an action I want to include in my Archer book and it does provide some detail. When I'm done I can just donate them back to the book room... If I want
You are the recycle brigade for old and new military books with a smattering of stuff you just like the look of. This will continue. The stalls and book shops on my travels are now online aware and the odd bargain can be picked. You just make sure the canny stallholder doesnt take the rise. This still means you buy and provide books for the secondhand shops and stalls for the future generation when you are gone. Onwards and upwards Musty and worn
Work being done around the car park is to make space for the LCT when ready. Told Grizzly, Croc & maybe BARV will be displayed on board. Can't say I'm happy about it (very not happy), them having been splendidly accessible bits of street furniture, but if you have an LCT I suppose it needs filling up.
I suppose that is true but at least I have an intended purpose for these two books ($5 Canadian) as opposed to my copy of Dilias, the 800 page history of the 48th Highlanders from Toronto ($80)!
Hi, The tanks were shifted from the D Day museum to Fort Cumberland. The had a bit about the move on the TV program “Mega Movers” on the “Quest” Channel about a year ago. Piece of the film here Regards Danny
Got the old medal yearbook just as a bit of decent visual reference on things I'd like to be better at ID-ing. The Warwicker Underground Army book is excellent, though. 50 pages in & completely gripped. Both well worth a couple of quid.
Ha Ha ! Top Adaministrator makes a semi-double post while trying to edit, Shock ! Horror ! What hope is there for us mere mortals ?
Well, abebooks has a "watch for a book" feature and now I've gone and bought a copy of the fairly rare "Tank Alert" memoir. I might sell some previous purchases to help pay for it
... Ahh!!! My purchase of Tank Alert was cancelled on abebooks - presumably someone else already bought it and the listing wasn't immediately removed. Does anyone have a copy who might be willing to look through it a little bit?
… which indeed is a shame … since I would have immediately asked you for copies of the Rhineland bit … your loss is felt and shared over here in Holland
