New CWGC Commemoration 14th May 2019

    CWGC added the following casualty to the WW2 War Dead Roll today.

    KESSELL, Stanley Hedley
    Photographer
    War Correspondent
    Died 14.12.40 Age 43
    Commemorated: United Kingdom Book of Remembrance

    NOT FORGOTTEN

    The above was In From the Cold Project case

    - Stanley Kessell died in an explosion whilst on a War Office assignment (Volunteer: Scott Smith)

    Apologies about the belated entry due to personal injury.

    The photograph of Perry and von Camm shaking hands after the match was taken by Stanley Hedley Kessell who was a photographer at The Times from 1924 until 1939 when he became the official War Office photographer under the auspices of the Newspaper Proprietors Association.

    Thanks, Guy. Quite incredible. He is credited, along with Malindine of The Daily Herald with many of the iconic BEF images. IWM credits him as a Lieutenant. Presumably a courtesy rank ?
