The guy who lives opposite me had this out at the weekend, 125 cc James, thought it might be of interest. Built in May 1943 he bought it because he was born May 1943.!!

I've tried every permutation that I can think of and gone through all the Matchless contracts but I can't tie that census number in at all...Most G3/WO models had 5 - digit RASC serials. The only thing it could possibly be, perhaps due to a shaking camera or the action of the camera shutter...is C4337350...but I agree that they all look like 8s...I even wondered if it began 'CC' - a motorcycle in Canadian service, but came nowhere with that either.

'55' on red on an elliptical (in theory) background would be correct of an AA or SL regiment within Anti-Aircraft Command.

    For Rich Payne.

Do you have this amongst your collection? (n.b. as in books, not the motorcycles!)

    Kind regards,

    Jim.

Yes and Yes....I have a 1939 WD16H pretty much like those on the cover and I pre-ordered the book too. Wonderful photos in it and some useful insights into things like record keeping at Chilwell.

Thanks for your reply Rich, very much appreciated.

It is an interesting and informative tome, my purchase being prompted by this image within (along with the motorcycles of course!)

    All the best,

    Jim

P.S. Ride/Drive to arrive and all that!

These were in the motorcade in Schijndel 23rd October celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Liberation. I travelled in (one of) General Eisenhowers pakard. Comfortable to sit in but a cow to get in and out of the back seat. Must be getting old!!!
