Hi, I am a part-time Humanities teacher from Southampton. I am on local heritage forums on facebook and also have YouTUBE Channels including Southampton on D-Day. I try to research/find original film footage from WW2 so, for example, I discovered film of Beaulieu Airfield featuring the US 365 Army Air Squadron flying Thunderbolts on D-Day and colour film of Canadian troops on landing craft leaving the port and Southampton Water on D-Day. However my latest video is a little out of area, HMS Berkeley, out of Portsmouth, 27 June 1941, escorts convoy on the Solent - Filmed and edited by Miss Rosie Newman but will give you a link to the YouTUBE Channel. Many thanks, Kip
Kip, I enjoyed your Youtube 'Southampton on D Day'; but notice that you have not included the fleet of Infantry Landing Ships that embarked in the 'old docks' (Empress and Ocean). Is that because there was no film fottage?
Welcome and nice video! I visited Portsmouth for the first time in March. Who was Miss Rosie Newman? She must have been working for the forces in a documentary capacity?
Here is a post about an interview I posted earlier that I enjoyed. He mentions Southhampton several times. 18:00 mark is an example
I didn't know that film existed. Do you know the name of the ship embarking the troops? She seems to have lifeboats rather than LCAs, according to the records those that sailed from Southampton all had LCAs? Roy Southampton
