Saw this in my local newspaper yesterday. The new badge to unify the Royal Marines and the Parachute Regiment. Graham.
I've no doubt it will infuriate many. The powers that be will call it ' modernisation of the armed services'. I would call it a 'cost cutting measure' Graham. Edited to add, ' armed services'
as Owen says Royal Marines are not a regiment... nor are they part of the Army, article also does not say they are unifying.
Looks a complete mess to me.Cannot believe the MOD would allow such a mishmash. Its unbalanced and, I do wonder if it has been approved yet.
to me the article reads we like the 2 parts of the service so have produced a badge off our own bats same as all the coin companies banging out commemoration coins and the like left right and centre
This has made me smile. A design company can maybe produce what it likes, but I can imagine how RM, Para & Commando acquaintances might feel about it. What colour do you get if you blend Maroon & Green? (If memory of Aldershot & Pompey drinking serves: maybe 'Lumberjack shirts, desert boots & ribaldry/violence' has a RAL number...) Wonder if the badges are copyrighted now? Hmmm. Must look that up.
Reminds me (loosely) of the 'Flying A' seen on car bonnets (Austins) in the 1950-60s. Terrible mishmash design.....(this badge and, for that matter, most Austins from that period most of which featured the well known 'rust lightening process').
