G Battery (Mercers Troop) 5 RHA were stationed in Writtle Essex in October 1940. Its HQ building(Radcliffs ) stood on the Green . This postcard was sent by a member (Gunner Archer) in 1940. Is the vehicle pictured a military one?. Must say it looks like a Landover but obviously not. Bryan Burnikell Sorry having trouble posting picture put it on Facebook and copied click on name should do it May be admin can sort it?
I wonder if it might be a Standard 12 hp Light Utility - it has the look of it (that’s the Standard Motor Company rather than a “standard” vehicle). And around in 1940.
If you want to post a picture here, click the "Upload a File" option, choose the file (up to 2 MB) and wait. Sometimes it doesn't seem like it uploaded. Click on "More Options..." and you should see your picture listed at the bottom with an option to "Insert". That'll make it appear in your message. A higher resolution picture would be helpful in this case, I think.
Thanks Von Poop Chris ,I did not get option to upload file just a box asking for URL that I do not have ,it would not copy hence the rather convoluted method posting it on face book.. Picture is a copy of a copy and best I have I am afraid. 5 RHA destroyed all their vehicles at Dunkirk ,I do not imagine there was a great stock of vehicles avaliable
CC Battery 5 RHA which had just been formed had the following vehicles at that time so guess G battery had similar. 2 -30 cwt lorries 2 -15 cwt trucks 2 - Utility vans I- Unpressed van? 1 - Car. So it might be a Standard.
If you see that, I am guessing you hit the Image icon? The "Upload a File" option is in the lower right next to "Post Reply".
