What is your favorite helmet of WW2 and why? :indexCAGHJY15: Consider whatever you want, it's look, ability to protect the soldier, simply anything. I like the American and German steel, whose look made it, IMHO, the helmet with best ear protection. As to the least favorite, the Dutch Army helmets at the beginning of the war looked pretty ridicilous and far too big.
It has to be said the German one was better than that which we had , it is still reflected in modern designs as per the US.
The German tank Museum at Muensterlager - has an awesome collection of helmets from 1939-45 from many nations on its walls. Panzermuseum.com - Panzermuseum News If you enlarge the photo of the M47 - you will see an example of one part of the collection Panzermuseum.com - M47 Medium Tank
I couldn't tell you mate Actually I can, I found this with the picture The Online Guide to World War II German Helmets
Isn't that the M23-27? I thought the M28 was unbadged. Dave. (but - if you think that one's bad (personally, I quite like it to be honest) - what about the Danish M23?
I think that the German helmet is the coolest looking becuause it offers good ear protection and looks menacing when you look at it, probable because I think about Darth Vader when I look at it.
One man's obsession.. ENTRADA WEB and a translated version Helmets been on my favourites list for a while.. Bod
Good lord Bod, I think that might just have to go in the Links here. Remarkable site, and it translates rather well too.
I'd love to know the story behind that. A prototype helmet? A nephew named Helmut? The Secret Service penetrated by the Abwehr?
For me I have always been fascinated by the German helmet. It started for me as a kid watching the old movies and seeing them in an old Army/Navy surplus store. Much like the US paratrooper helmets the German Fallschirmjager was designed for a specific purpose and unit. I still marvel to this day when I hold one in my hands.
