On this day in 1945, an accidental fire ravaged the Canadian 29th Motor Torpedo Boat Flotilla while docked in the harbour of Ostend, Belgium. Sadly, 26 Canadian sailors lost their lives in the incident at Ostend and five Canadian vessels were destroyed. An estimated 35 British sailors also lost their lives.
