I am keen to find out more about the Oxford and Windsor carriers that were used in Korea. I can find plentiful technical data on the latter, but not on the former. Can anyone help with dimensions for the Oxford carrier? I would like to complete a set of my own models of the British Army carriers used in various conflicts, and this one is outstanding. I have not been able to find any useful information in my internet searches, and I wondered if anyone could help. I have seen a separate thread on carriers dating from 2007, but nothing more recent. The 'Bible' on Universal Carriers (of all sorts from Light Dragons to the Oxford and Cambridge) are the three volumes of 'Universal Carriers' by Nigel Watson. Volume 2 (I only have Vols 1 and 2) tells me that the dimensions of the Oxford carrier (CT20) are as follows: Overall length including towing attachment 168 inches Overall width including track skirts 90.5 inches Ground Clearance 14 inches Overall height to top of hull 63 inches Overall height to top of hood 80 inches Volume 2 also contains a number of pictures of the Oxford, though most appear to be vehicles under trial. There exists a picture of a traffic sign in Korea directing Oxfords to take a diversion, so they must have been used out there. Chris
Chris, Your response is much appreciated. I do not have access to these books, though I have seen them referenced. This is very useful information, and I can now have a go at generating an appropriate (if perhaps not exact) 3D model. I have found quite a few pictures of the Oxford carrier on the web (I can probably provide references if yo would like them), including a few from Korea, but had found hard dimensional information difficult to obtain, and could not justify paying the Tank Museum to search for this data. I had hoped the separate set of plans that come with Watson Vol.3 might have something on the Oxford, but nothing at all, I'm afraid. There might be something in Wheels & tracks, but will have to look later. Some good clear pictures in 'Making Tracks' of CT20-26, if you're interested.
Thank you for this additional information. It is very kind of you to take the effort to find more data; this support is very much appreciated. Any drawings are useful! I am also interested in the transition from the Oxford to the Cambridge carriers, and thence to the FV430 series. I have the profile publication on the FV430, which provides some information, but it is incomplete. Just an interesting period in AFV development in the UK... Best wishes Vincent
