Hi, I hope someone can find out what this means on my father's WWII record:' X 4 list Trans to 5 bon wef 10.6.45'. I can work out transferred to and 'with effect from' but not what's in between. His previous entry was 'Discharge 18FDS and X ii List 13 May 45'. I know he was with the 18 Field Dressing Station RASC and 'Adm to 121 Br. Gen Hop to Xii List' - presumably he was a casualty. Many thanks, Dafydd.
Can you post a copy of the Record - it's easier to work from the original to get the context and you may be misreading it. If you give your father's name and Service No. I'll have a look at the Casualty Lists. A guess without seeing the record is it is an abbreviation for 5th Battalion. Tim
X (ii) LIST comprises all ranks evacuated on medical grounds beyond Regimental First Aid Post. Personnel so evacuated cease to be on the effective strength of their units. Temporary or acting rank will be relinquished 28 days after being so transferred to X (ii) list. Personnel remain in X (ii) list until they are classified as fit for posting when they are transferred to the X (iv) list of their corps and marched out to the appropriate training depot, or until discharged by a medical unit direct to their original units X (iv) LIST comprises all unposted reinforcements and incoming reinforcement drafts. Personnel discharged from (x(ii)) to Training Depots, fit for duty, are transferred to the X (iv) list of their corps, until posted to a unit, when they are struck off X (iv) and taken on unit strength. Reinforcements in transit between the Base and a unit remain on X (iv) (and the Base Depot strength) until they actually reach and are taken on the strength by the unit to which they are proceeding. Escaped PoWs [Prisoners of War] who until such escape have been on the X (iii) list are transferred to X (iv) list on reaching their respective training depots. As timuk says best to upload a scan/copy of the document, different ways to interept the written notes etc etc TD
I totally agree with Tim’s advice but would take a stab in the dark that your “Bon” is actually “Con” ie he was being moved to Number 5 Convalescent Depot/Centre. Steve
Thank you so much for an quick reply. I enclose the relevant part of my father's record: Army No: T/14697883 GSC and he was a DRV. I hope you can see it and decipher it.
Could still do with seeing more of the document - it helps understand the mans 'history' Disch [Discharged] 18 F D S [Field Dressing Station] & Xii List Trans [Transferred] to 5 Con [Convalescent] dept [department] Disch from 5 Con dept I note earlier he was in 121 Brit Gen Hosp but cant read the dates 121 British General Hospital Goodwood 7/43 to 4/44 then to Knutsford; Knutsford 4/44 to 7/44 then to Soubles; Gruchet 10/44 to 11/44 then to Amiens; Amiens 11/44 to 6/45 then to Celle; Celle 3/45 to 6/45 then to Brunswick [dates don't agree with previous entry]; Brunswick 6/45 to 12/46. If you compare the date of his admission to 121 BGH then you will know roughly where he was TD
